Under the moonlight, the azure dragon pattern above my wrist, which had become increasingly faint after several washes, seemed to emit a mysterious glow.
Could the legend about dragons that Grandma told me be true…
"Ah Ren! Come play cards!" Zhao Jiayin's shout woke Hao Ren from his reverie.
A whole night of card games was how he got through this weekend. Monday morning came upon opening his eyes.
"Ah Ren, I heard you flirted with a girl and she found her way to your door"
"They say the girl is quite bold; posters seeking her have been plastered all over school. Ah, too bad I went home on Saturday…"
"I went to the canteen and saw her. The little girl was very pretty, even patting Ah Ren's belly!"
"Hey, Ah Ren, what did you do to the little lady"
"Stop talking nonsense; Ah Ren is a good person…"
"Hao Ren, of course he’s a good guy! This semester alone, he has already received six ‘good person cards’!"
During recess, such discussions filled the classroom. Due to the small beauty's grand display in coming to school looking for Hao Ren on Saturday, this incident became the week's hottest topic.
Hao Ren was too lazy to engage in these discussions; the warm sunlight made him feel sleepy.
He would occasionally glance at Class President Xie Yujia sitting up front. She seemed quite interested in the matter, but as soon as Hao Ren's gaze met hers, she quickly avoided his eyes.
Hao Ren really wanted to explain to her that he wasn't a player; it was always these troublemaker friends of his who would use his name to declare their love for some girl whenever he showed interest in one, thus earning him yet another "good person card."
Of course, Xie Yujia could be considered as one of the girls who had given Hao Ren a "good person card."
Might it be better to invite her out for a beach trip some other day Grandma should like her; she's such a pretty girl.
But when Zhou Liren was joking around before, she made it clear that she wasn't interested in me… Thinking this over, Hao Ren let out a sigh and lowered his head to continue sleeping.
The sleepy afternoon classes finally came to an end. As Hao Ren woke up from a daze, he realized his right hand had gone numb from being pressed on for so long.
Just as he was about to shake it to improve circulation, he suddenly noticed that his right hand seemed much thicker!
Because they were wearing long sleeves, Zhao Jiayin and the others didn't notice Hao Ren's arm changing, but Hao Ren clearly felt that his entire right arm was swelling up!
Thinking about the strange tattoos over these two days, the arrogant little girl, as well as the sudden increase in strength, Hao Ren seemed to find some connections. He abruptly stood up and left the classroom.
"Hey…" The three of Zhou Liren were packing their things to go for dinner when they saw Hao Ren leave hurriedly, looking puzzled.
Hao Ren walked out of the classroom without stopping and hailed a taxi outside the campus.
"Driver, head to Lingzhao Middle School's junior high section. Hurry up!" Hao Ren sat in the car and anxiously said.
"Alright!" The taxi quickly started and arrived at the main gate of Lingzhao High School within ten minutes.
It was exactly when these middle school students were finishing their classes; students wearing school uniforms came out like a wave from the school gates.
Hao Ren found a high spot, stood up on tiptoe and tried to search for that little girl's whereabouts.
However, all these students wore similar light blue uniforms, and their ages were also close. Hao Ren was straining his eyes but still couldn't find the girl.
"Uncle, are you looking for me" Suddenly, a crisp voice rang beside Hao Ren.
Hao Ren turned around to see the little girl he had been searching for standing right next to him.
She was still wearing the light blue uniform and sporting a simple ponytail. She also carried the emblem of Lingzhao High School, but additionally, there was a small badge on her clothing that read: Class 2 Year 2, Zhao Yanzi.
Standing beside her was another girl from the same class who looked less attractive than her.
Hao Ren awkwardly jumped down from the guardrail. "This…"
"I told you that you would come looking for me," said this Zhao Yanzi confidently and proudly.
"Ah Zi, who is he" The girl beside Zhao Yanzi looked at Hao Ren warily and asked her softly.
"A college uncle from Donghai University. He owes me something." Zhao Yanzi told the other girl.
Uncle… Hearing this term, Hao Ren felt his head crack into two pieces.
Hearing Zhao Yanzi's answer, the girl continued to look at Hao Ren warily.
Please, do I really look like a bad guy I think my appearance is quite innocent... Hao Ren helplessly looked at that girl.
"Are you Ah Zi" Hao Ren broke the awkward silence and asked Zhao Yanzǐ.
Zhao Yanzǐ pointed at the name tag on her chest, meaning that you must have noticed it already.
"Uncle, what's your name" She asked Hao Ren.
"My name is Hao Ren," Hao Ren replied.
"Usually, people who call themselves good guys aren't actually good." The girl next to Ah Zi immediately said.
"Xiao Ling, you go back first. I have some things to talk with this uncle today and won’t be going home with you," Zhao Yanzǐ told the girl beside her.
"Oh... Be careful..." This girl looked at Hao Ren guardedly and reminded Ah Zi somewhat reluctantly.
"Uncle, are you coming for me too late now" Seeing Xiao Ling gradually move away, Zhao Yanzǐ said to Hao Ren.
"Don't call me uncle. You can just call me Ah Ren," Hao Ren's head started spinning.
"Okay, Uncle." Zhao Yanzǐ replied.
Hao Ren was speechless.
"It’s great that you came to find me. But unfortunately, it's too late today. My parents already know about the loss of my item and you’ll have to face my father’s anger now." Zhao Yanzǐ said in a proud tone with her head held high.
The little brat was putting on quite a show of airs, which irked Hao Ren somewhat, but he still managed to hold back his temper.
"Wait and see. My parents will come look for you personally tomorrow," Zhao Yanzǐ said after that. She then swung her pink school bag over her shoulder without caring about Hao Ren’s reaction and ran off in a hurry.
Hao Ren stood there dumbfounded, pondered it for a moment, and uttered an exasperated "tsk" sound, spitting out, "Fine! Tell your parents to come here; who are you afraid of!"
He gritted his teeth in anger as he returned to school without even wanting to eat dinner. He went straight back to the dormitory and went to bed.
"Has Ah Ren really had a breakup He's seemed rather down lately, hasn’t he"
"Could it be related to that little beauty"
"No way! Does Ah Ren actually like that girl"
"Maybe it’s got something to do with Xie Yujia then"
"Does Ah Ren really like the class monitor"
"Can't you tell Is it not obvious"
"Should we help him again"
When the other three returned to the dormitory and saw Hao Ren sleeping on his bed with a gloomy expression, they started whispering among themselves.
The next day, Hao Ren forced himself to appear energetic as he went to class. The blue patterns on his arm had completely vanished, but his entire arm was swollen and painful, with veins protruding prominently, as if full of strength yet nowhere to release it. This couldn't be a normal phenomenon.
The three dormitory brothers noticed Hao Ren's pale complexion and assumed he had been hurt by a girl again. They surrounded him all day long, being overly enthusiastic towards him.
However, thinking about Zhao Zhanzi bringing her parents to the school to find him, possibly escalating this matter to the office of the college administration, Hao Ren lost interest instantly.
In class, Zhao Jiyan leaned over to Cao Ronghua and Zhou Liren, saying, "It's done for. Ah Ren is probably truly heartbroken; he’s never been so cold before."
"Yes, he was absent-minded the whole day. Let’s treat him to lunch then have a chat with him," said Cao Ronghua.
Ring… The class bell rang.
Cao Ronghua and Zhou Liren pulled Hao Ren up, saying, "Come on, Ah Ren! We’ll take you out for lunch today!"
"I’m not really hungry…" As Hao Ren said this, he started moving towards the door. Suddenly, a black object caught his eye.
At the main entrance of the teaching building, a sleek black Mercedes-Benz S-Class car was parked steadily. Two middle-aged men in formal attire and white gloves were waiting respectfully by both sides of the car.
The entrance to the teaching building was surrounded by a group of curious students who wanted to know which prince or princess this grand arrival was for—considering that Donghai University was a public university, wealthy students did exist but in general, it wasn’t regarded as an aristocratic institution.
Cao Ronghua and his friends dragged Hao Ren over to see the spectacle. Unexpectedly, those two men hurriedly approached them and said, "You have finally finished class; our master has been waiting for you."
This sudden change shocked Cao Ronghua and Zhou Liren. When they realized that these black-garbed men were looking at Hao Ren, they quickly let go of him.
The surrounding students gasped in unison, their discussions growing louder. If many students had already returned home on Saturday and missed the scene at the canteen, then this Mercedes-Benz S-Class car coming to pick up Hao Ren was another shocking news item.
"So Hao Ren’s family is really wealthy…"
"It probably isn’t from Hao Ren's family; look how surprised he looks…"
